The men’s version, Moon Sparkle For Men, is attributed to Guichard in all sources. Guichard is a master perfumer from the seventh generation of a family of rose and jasmine growers from Grasse. He worked at Givaudan, then at Firmenich, and is now a senior perfumer at Takasago. In 2019 he founded his own niche brand Matière Première. His father, Jean Guichard, created Calvin Klein Obsession and Paco Rabanne La Nuit. Among Aurélien’s own hits are Versace Eros, Narciso Rodriguez Narciso, Burberry Hero and Gucci Guilty.

🌸 The fragrance pyramid. Top notes are strawberry, black currant, red apple and a citrus accord. The heart is sweet pea, freesia, jasmine and rose. The base is raspberry, musk, sandalwood and amber. It is sweet pea, a rare note, that gives that very «candy-like» airiness for which the fragrance is loved. And raspberry with amber in the base creates a warm cozy trail, not only musk and sandalwood.

🎨 The bottle. According to some sources, the design of the women’s version was created by the Japanese fashion illustrator Hiroshi Tanabe, whose corporate clients include Anna Sui, Issey Miyake, Guerlain and Shiseido. There is no direct confirmation specifically for Moon Sparkle, so this detail should be treated as a version rather than a fact.

👫 The paired strategy. Moon Sparkle was released as a pair with the men’s version, Moon Sparkle For Men, as a feminine-romantic tandem to the bold men’s fragrance with ginger, pepper and vodka. This is a typical Escada paired strategy for summer limited editions.

How it sounds and wears. «Berry lemonade with sweet pea settling on warm raspberry and amber» is a recognizable description. The start is juicy, sparkling, sweet and sour, strawberry and black currant with red apple and citrus. In the heart is a light floral airiness with sweet pea and freesia. ⏳ Discontinued. Moon Sparkle has been officially discontinued. L’Etoile marks it as «removed from sale», and on Fragrantica users repeatedly confirm its discontinued status. The fragrance can only be found on the secondary market, and prices are often inflated. It remains one of the most beloved, but not in stores, rather in memory and on eBay.
